About

WHAT DRIVES US.

We stand for what connects us all, advocating for life in all its forms and ensuring it has a place in every conversation about the future of our built environment.

Two experts, one mission.

The School of Socialtecture was founded by Julia Erdmann and Indra Musiol, combining over 50 years of experience in architecture, urban development, social sciences, innovation.

Their complementary expertise has been the foundation for transformative projects and the development of the 9 Principles of Life – now made applicable through the School of Socialtecture.

Julia and Indra Musiol have been collaborating at JES Socialtecture for nearly a decade.

Where we come from

JES Socialtecture (Hamburg, Berlin )

JES Socialtecture (JES) is where architecture meets social life, research meets action, and ideas become lived places. Founded by Julia Erdmann, JES works with cities, developers, and communities to shape spaces guided by Socialtecture – an approach that puts social life at the center of planning and design.
The team is involved from the very beginning – long before the first sketch – through co-creation, participatory processes, and strategic planning, all the way to curating the right mix of people, uses, and concepts that bring places to life. JES transforms harbor areas into vibrant neighborhoods, reimagines city centers, and designs workspaces for the future, consistently questioning how things have been done and how they could be different. Based in Hamburg with a studio in Berlin, JES brings together multiple disciplines and a shared commitment to shaping urban life for generations to come.

How it is going
As our work developed, it became clear that these insights needed to be shared.

Socialtecture grew beyond individual projects into a language that can be learned, applied and further developed.
That’s why we founded the School of Socialtecture.
Today, we work with professionals, institutions and individuals who want to strengthen their ability to navigate complexity and make meaningful decisions in their own contexts.

OUR VISION

We envision a learning environment where people develop the ability to work with complexity in a meaningful way.

The School of Socialtecture contributes to this by making life-centered thinking accessible – and enabling people to work with it in their own practice.

We envision a learning environment where people develop the ability to work with complexity in a meaningful way.
Where knowledge is not only understood, but applied in real situations.
Where professionals from different fields share a language to think, decide and act.
